Players interested in getting a hands-on preview of Dungeons & Dragons Online have an opportunity right now, as Turbine and IGN are hosting a stress test event from today through this Friday. You need to be a paying FilePlanet subscriber, and according to the stress test FAQ, even though the test runs for five days, each person who gets accepted will only be granted three days of play. FilePlanet subscrbers can sign up here.
The Stress Test Event is an opportunity for Turbine to load up the game servers and evaluate how they handle the increased population. On the existing Beta server, we control the number of participants so that we can increase our population over time while ensuring the game client and server are stable enough to evaluate other topics of interest, such as design and graphics.
During the Stress Test Event, however, we temporarily allow a much greater number of people to access a special Stress Test Event server so we can see how it handles the increased traffic and can push its performance to the upper limits.
Although we are at a point in development where we are confident the server can handle heavy capacity, we need to test it with players logged in. It is likely there will be periods where the server is unavailable, due to load issues or maintenance. Turbine will keep the Stress Test community informed of server status.
