'Sea of Destiny' Clone Interview

Rinuel, 2003-06-04

'The 'Sea of Destiny' mod is about to be released, and it's eagerly expected by the Morrowind fans. We ask Clone, 'Sea of Destiny' mod leader, to share his thoughts with us

Welcome, Clone. First, thanks for sharing your time with us for this interview. Now, can you let us know a little about yourself, just to cover the basics, you know.
Well I live in America, in a very small state known as Iowa. I grew up with the computer. And games just came to me. I kept buying them and buying them. I love just sitting down and getting hooked into a game for 4 or 5 hours. Like Morrowind did to me There is really nothing more that is important about me, just I'm a clone modder. The usual you know

What your previous experience in modding, for those than haven’t been following your ‘Life as a modder’ features, available at this site…

Well I've currently modded in the following games : Age of Empires 2, StarCraft, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, Operation Flashpoint, Dungeon Siege, The Sims, and last and the best out of them all, Morrowind. I started Sea of Destiny out on the Age of Empires 2 engine and transferred the project over to well a much better engine I think you would all agree with me. I usually want to buy a game with an editor, because I love to mod!

And why did you preferred the Morrowind mod scene / tools, instead of others like Dungeon Siege or Neverwinter Nights?

Well I had started in Dungeon Siege but the editor limits you so much. Just like Neverwinter Nights, you don't get the freedom you do as in Morrowind. You get much better graphics, a bigger and NICER community. The possibilities with Morrowind is endless but with these other games you just come upon limits. These limits make you to stop modding for it. But with Morrowind I could just build whatever I wanted, and that made me feel at home modding for it.

Before we go into more details with your popular ‘Sea of Destiny’ mod, can you comment on your other mods?

Well my earlier mods were little gifts to the community but with Sea of Destiny I'm giving you a birthday present! My old misc. plugins were just ideas I wanted to build and release and see what the community thinks about them. I have made a bunch of misc. mods during the making of Sea of Destiny, which I will release soon in a mod pack. I've haven't had alot of time for them since of my project. But with Bloodmoon I plan onto make a bunch more.

Now, to Sea of Destiny of course, which is about to be released. How would you briefly describe it

Ok here is the short description of the mod...
Enter a majestic and varied sea which contains islands you can only dream of. Some islands hold huge mountain cities while others contain secretive underground cavern systems. These lands, controlled by three Gods, have recently been corrupted by the antics of one. Now these peaceful islands are besieged. They are looking for the Prophesied One, an outlander who can save their lands, their homes, and their lives. Travel to 17 brand new and original islands in the Sea of Destiny and communicate with over 300 NPCS. Over 10 new suits of armor including new weapons also. Over 8 new features, including over 400 exterior cells, new items, a complete storyline, and over 50 new books! The journey of your destiny starts here...

Did that help? :)

How long would it take more less to take the main quest for the average gamer, including everything

Well the main quest in SoD has three main parts. Which works with the three sets of islands : Dagger, Kar, and Regar. You will travel to all 17 islands in some quest. And you will come upon alot of new treasures which will slow you down. But the time to complete the main quest I would say maybe is 4-5 hours. Very hard to give a correct number.

How many side quests will be available?

In the first release we hope to have over 20. But more will be added overtime, so don't worry Clone doesn't want to leave out them fun misc. quests he has planned!

In future updates of the mod, you expect simply to make the mod bug free, or will you release new stuff like quests, functionalities…

The answer to that question is both! I will add on new stuff through expansions. Then bug free esp files for download. The download center for SoD will grow really big with all the new stuff I have planned for it. So after I release, count on more for my project. We are really working hard on making the first release bug free. Which is very hard to do!

Talking about functionalities, I mean, script tricks that allow the player to do things never done before; can we expect any over those provided by the main Morrowind game and the Tribunal expansion?

Well, I have looked over some ideas with the team which we could do. We have just haven't found any scripts that will make our mod cooler then other ones. We are really focusing on new stuff, not scripts. But our scripts for quests will work! It is just that isn't our major worry.

What about the graphics, is there new art in the mod?

Well if your talking about new art like in concepts. Then yes. Our concept artist has been working very hard on the map for the islands and new armor/weapon concepts. There will so many new sets of high quality armor you will all drool. We have alot of new stuff which we have never shown to any of you yet. So be ready for a surprise for new stuff in SoD.

And what about music, or voices in the game. Will we be able to hear our new friends and foes?

There will be some new music in SoD and voice acting for some of the main gods. To add more fun to the game, voices help that. Voices really make the character feel there instead of just reading text. So if you want to try out for voice acting visit our website and e-mail us!

Which is your preferred feature in the mod that you can talk us about?

Well the feature I love is the huge city of Regar. I mean it is huge. Over 80 interiors ready for you to explore. Don't forget quests with some of them! The city is alive also you could say. There is people outside walking the streets, loading stuff onto ships, markets, outside rogues, tents, outside grills preparing food for you, and so much more! The city of Regar also is home to a big beach around it. With also a huge farmland with pine trees and windmills. And last is the new battle arena which you can fight and become a champion! This will be a city to visit when you get the mod.

And what are the fans talking about the most?

Well the comments I heard the most would be they can't wait to explore all the new land. I mean there is over 400 new cells of land The amount of new exploring is really amazing. Every time you load this mod up, you will find a new secret somewhere you didn't look before. Don't forget a rumored Underwater City... Remember fans, tell us your suggestions for the mod! We listen and try to make them

We know about the imminent release of Bloodmoon, and rumors are around about a Sea of Destiny expansion based on it, what can you tell us about this?

Well the rumors are true I didn't want to just stop my mod. I wanted to add on. Which the best way I thought is release new expansions. Here is the basic description for FROST FALL....
Past the islands of Dagger is a forsaken frozen fortress which has been forgotten by the Gods. Controlled by the Frozen Queen only known as Ghaledra, covered the island in snow. Her vigorous thoughts have recently been awakening the God's knowledge of this kingdom. The island known as FROST FALL is being overlooked by an great evil which is rumbling from below. The ice on the island is slowly melting as the evil under the island is gaining power. The Elders speak of the ONE to take on this quest. You have been chosen to destroy evil and make Frost Fall safe once again...

And any other project on sight?

Well I thought about this alot, the answer is maybe. It is hard to tell when working on project which you really need to finish. I hope to start more projects

Well, thanks for your time. Anything you would like to add for your fans?

Well the thing I really want to say is THANK YOU!!!! Your support has blown me away. I couldn't believe the people that liked our mod. That is one thing that kept me going. The team behind the project with me appreciates it also! So just keep with us and we will keep making this mod. Remember Sea of Destiny is for the community! My main goal of making an awesome project I hope is soon complete But projects take time, and I'm willing to take it. Thanks to all of you!

clone ^_^
