The RPG Vault has conducted an interview with Taylor Daynes, the lead designer of Flying Lab Software's Pirates themed online RPG.
Here's the 1st question and its corrsponding answer:Jonric: What kind of game is Pirates of the Burning Sea intended to be? What are the basic premise and your high-level concept and design goals?
Taylor Daynes: Pirates of the Burning Sea is a game of adventure and conquest on a national scale. Three major empires exist in the Caribbean, the British, French and Spanish, each with their own unique advantages. Players will organize into nations, trade companies and navies, and will compete with their national rivals in order to claim dominance over the riches of the West Indies. And of course, thrown into the midst of this frothing melee are the bloodthirsty pirates! Beholden to no one, they pillage and plunder where they can, claiming riches and glory one moment, and disappearing back into the mists and jungles the next.
Pirates of the Burning Sea is a game where everyone can make a difference - newbie or veteran, creator or warrior. The world is truly dynamic - in addition to the player-driven economy, players can build towns and cities. Players will develop mines, lumber operations and farmland, and they will contract out the movement and use of these goods to other players. While Pirates of the Burning Sea has a rich and developed skill system, your ability to make an impact on the world is not tied to your stats; it is limited only by your vision and your ability to organize your peers. |
