A preview of Trials of Ascension, Shadowpool's upcoming MMORPG, has been posted at Gaming Horizon. Here's a bit for you:
A definitely important issue to any massively multiplayer title is the death system, as well as how the developer is going to deal with "player-killers". TOA will utilize a permanent-death system, which will feature a certain number of "counters" for each character. Once that number of counters is up that character is permanently dead, end of discussion (everybody say "groan" and let's go on). The pros for this system, though, far outweigh the cons. Player-killers have the same number of counters as everyone else, and a gamer who turns his character into a mass-murderer will run into the trouble of bounty-hunters and law-enforcement who are out for his hide. PK'ers may also be outcast from society, and left to travel alone will surely have a shorter life-span. And for those who are wondering "What's the point of playing if once my character is dead that's it?" Shadowpool has something just for you. Once a character has aged to a certain extent, or a player has done everything with his character that he wants to do, the gamer can turn his character into an artifact for the rest of the game's world to use. As an artifact, the character will influence the forces of good, evil, or neutral depending upon how that character's life was played out, and then these artifacts can be obtained by others through quests.
If you want to know more about the game, you might check out or interview with the developers from April 25th.
