One of the wonderful things at Boing Boing today is the news that author and professor Lawrence Lessig, founder and chairman of the Creative Commons and board member of the Electronic Frontier Foundation, will be conducting an in-game signing and interview in Second Life.Larry Lessig is doing an in-game book-signing and interview in Second Life, a complex virtual world that allows players to create objects and release them in-game under Creative Commons licenses. I did a similar event last year, and it was way cool -- Second Lifers built me a custom avatar, generated virtual editions of my book, and created a script that let me "sign" copies of it. Lessig has advised Second Life's parent company on copyright issues before, but this is the first time he's addressed the "citizens" of Second Life about the system of ownership of virtual goods in-game.
