Dungeon Siege Movie: Interview with Dr Uwe Boll
Sia' Garrett' Manzari & Frank 'Parcival' Rieter-Lambers, 2004-01-23

After the movie based on Dungeon Siege was announced, Parcival initiated an interview with director/producer Dr Uwe Boll, who kindly answered our questions about the project. If you want to learn more about Dr Boll, click over to his homepage!

RPGDot: Hello. First off please introduce yourself to our readers and please also tell us, how you came to make the DS movie?

Dr Uwe Boll: Peter Moore , Ex boss of SEGA USA, is now Microsoft's Game CEO. He played a zombie in HOUSE OF THE DEAD. So I got to know him and we talked about DUNGEON SIEGE.

RPGDot: I understand you both produce and direct the movie? Is that correct?

Dr Uwe Boll: Yes.

RPGDot: How far into development is the project already? When will you start shooting and where?

Dr Uwe Boll: We want to shot 2005 in Vancouver. It will be a 250 minute movie, that will get two movies at the cinemas.

RPGDot: Who will be writing or has written the script?

Dr Uwe Boll: There are several people involved.

RPGDot: Where will the story take place? Arrana - Ehb or won't it be related to the games?

Dr Uwe Boll: Ehb. We will implement all locations of the kingdom and enlarge them in the computer etc! It will take place at the same time as the game, but we will not have larger time jumps in the movie.

RPGDot: Who will do the special effects? ILM, WETA,...?

Dr Uwe Boll: We are working with several, such as TOYBOX (whom also are doing ALONE IN THE DARK for me), Scanline, Upstart, Aikon.

RPGDot: Can you tell us anything abut the cast and the crew already? Did you cast actors yet? What is your dream cast? Who will do the soundtrack?

Dr Uwe Boll: That all has yet to be decided. Mel Gibson would be perfect - in the tradition of Braveheart.

RPGDot: What kind of movie are you aiming for: what´s the balance between story - humour - action - special effects. Can you compare it to any other game-based movie or to other fantasy movies like Dungeons & Dragons or of course Lord of the Rings?

Dr Uwe Boll: LORD OF THE RINGS meets Braveheart meets CONAN. I am no friend of too much humor in these movies.

RPGDot: Do you play computer games yourself? What in DS makes it suitable to make a movie out of it?

Dr Uwe Boll: Of course I do play myself. PC, PLAYSTATION und X BOX. Dungeon Siege has a fantastic story and fantastic locations for a movie and after a lot of horror movies, I now want to make a fantasy movie.

RPGDot: What other projects are you working on at the moment?

Dr Uwe Boll: Bloodrayne & Hunters - The Reckoning.

RPGDot: Thanks a lot for your time and good luck with your projects!
