Black Mirror Interview
Sia' Garrett' Manzari, 2004-04-21

We have a series of three interviews with dtp marketing manager Christopher Kellner about their series of adventures. Part two is about Black Mirror, a horror adventure game inspired by novely by Edgar Allan Poe.

RPGDot: Is Black Mirror based on a book or novel?

dtp - Christopher Kellner: No, the story has been written by the developers, but yes, the story could be taken from one of those gothic-horror-novel by Edgar Allen Poe or Algernon Blackwood. It was these classics that inspired the developers.

RPGDot: What is the game about? Is the story linear or does it leave enough freedom to the player?

dtp - Christopher Kellner: The player takes the role of Samuel Gordon, who resembles Johnny Depp in Sleepy Hollow a little. His grandfather has died under mysterious circumstances, which makes Samuel return to the castle of his ancestors, Black Mirror - after 12 years of absence! Actually, he never wanted to return again, because 12 years ago his wife died in the castle and Samuel blames himself for the loss. Upon hist arrival, he notices that some things are being covered up and that his grandfather did not die naturally. Black Mirror has an uncomparable, dark atmosphere in an old castle, which will make players shiver. The story is also linear, but leaves a certain freedom to the player, e.g. in what order to solve quests.

RPGDot: What will the controls be like?

dtp - Christopher Kellner: Black Mirror has classic point'n'click controls, as you know and love them from many other adventure games.

RPGDot: What kind of puzzles are there? Classical, complex puzzles or puzzles a la Myst?

dtp - Christopher Kellner: Black Mirror offers all of them. I also suggest to have an encyoclopedia ready to hand when playing. To solve some puzzles you need to have basic knowledge of things, for example, you need to adjust the order of the nine planets of our solar system.

RPGDot: Will there be action sequences or other mini games?

dtp - Christopher Kellner: As you take it...there is a sequence in which you need to defend yourself against a wolf. There will be no real action sequences however, despite, Samuel can die in some situations.
