RPGVault continues the Pirates od the Burning Sea Interview with questions to Lead Designer Taylor Daynes:
Jonric: What will prevent the game from becoming nothing more than a bloodbath, and how will you address newbie killing and other potential problems that can be linked to open PvP?
Taylor Daynes: Does this mean that we're hoping for bloody anarchy? No, quite the opposite. With navies patrolling trade routes and national waters, and hired escorts protecting merchant convoys, we expect that the seas will be quite safe for most of our players much of the time. However, those players more adventurous than others will find that great risk yields greater reward.
Characters in our game will belong to one of the three major nations, or they will be unaffiliated pirates. Within each nation, players will organize into navies that protect their waters from pirates and rival nations. The merchants will be delighted to have a military escort, and the Navy will be delighted to give it, because the Navy's budget comes (in large part) from the taxes on trade. Pirates of the Burning Sea is a team-based competition where every side has several different strategies available, and many ways to win. |
